‘71 MKIV #005
The MKIV is the fuzz that will convert non fuzz lovers into believers. Originally released in the late 60’s as the MKIII and then in 1970 as the MKIV, with a few component value changes but essentially the same circuit. This is by far one of my favorites in the Tonebender family.
The Breña FX MKIV is powered by three germanium transistors that I carefully measured and auditioned before committing to the final build. For this custom fuzz I chose a pair of Tungsram AC125 for Q1/Q2 and Toshiba AC121 for Q3.
This MKIV is powered by 9v battery, which is why I also include a battery bypass toggle switch. It can be very inconvenient to have to unplug the input jack to save your battery, like you have to do with many vintage style fuzz.
