Alhambra #000
The Alhambra is a hybrid fuzz based on the 1967 Jordan Bosstone. The original units used a pair of low gain silicon transistors that clip a pair of 1N4001 silicon diodes. After tinkering with this circuit a bit, I discovered that a hybrid transistor pair (Ge-2N1304/Si-2N3903) sounds fantastic in the bosstone. I also tuned a few of the components to beef up the low-mid frequency response and remove the sharp top end. I tried a few different clipping diodes, but the original spec 1N4001's sounded the best to my ears. The result is a very dynamic fuzz that has just the right amount of bite to cut through a band mix. The Alhambra is pick sensitive and cleans up beautifully with guitar volume. You can dial in everything from bluesy cleans to garage rock dirt, and modern sustaining leads.
This first unit is serial numbered 000, since it's technically a prototype. I didn’t intend this to be released in quantity, however, this has quickly become my new favorite fuzz, so ya know I gotta make more.
Ok, let's talk about the knobs. I recently scored a small lot of these vintage NOS knobs. By small lot, I mean only ten of them. I've never seen anything like them before and they look killer with this chocolate sparkle enclosure.
