73 Supa Ram #016
The 73 Supa Ram is based on the 1973 Rams Head Big Muff, with a few modifications. This is the Muff circuit said to be closest to the one David Gilmour used in early Pink Floyd.
Modifications:
I’ve added a Mid Control knob for extra tone flavor savers, and SUPA MODE. In 1973, Sola Sound released the Colorsound Supa Tone Bender. It was essentially a four transistor Big Muff circuit minus one set of clipping diodes. The sound of the Supa Tone Bender is a cross between a Muff and a Tone Bender. The toggle switch on the 73 Supa Ram activates Supa Mode.
The Mid Control knob boosts or cuts the mid frequencies as you turn the knob. Center position is roughly flat mids. Clockwise scoops the mids and counter clock boosts mids.
At the heart of the 73 Supa Ram are a matched set of vintage NOS RCA 2N3242A transistors and Soviet KD522B clipping diodes. These transistors have been in my stash for a few years and they just happen to sound glorious in this pedal.
