The Double Driver is two independent overdrive distortions in series. The front end is based on the ‘77 “Grey” 250 Overdrive, followed by the classic Distortion Plus. A pair of vintage NOS metal can IC’s are at the heart of this stacked dirt machine.

Clipping Diodes:

“Grey” 250 - original units use silicon 1N4148 that have bright top end crunch. While testing those and a few other diode options, I fell in love with a pair of silicon 1SS133. On paper they are almost identical to the 1N4148, but in the 250 they have a little more top end clarity that sold it for me.

D Plus - I went with a matched set of germanium 1N270, same as the original units.
